We’re opening Saturday, July 21st at noon!

Ahem…

We have been working on this project for several years now, far longer than we’ve been talking about it here. We cannot express how very much we appreciate your patience (not to mention the patience of our families!) through all of this as we have figured out so many things. We have so much gratitude for members of the business community and members of the brewing community who have helped out with advice and hard work. We have so much gratitude for family members and friends who’ve picked up hammer, mop, phone or laptop and gotten things done.

The same goes for how much we appreciate *your* interest and support, which has exceeded all our hopes. We are amazed at the reception we’ve received in the neighborhood, and we feel truly lucky to have the opportunity we have – we’ve lost count of how many curious neighbors we’ve met who just happened to come look in the window when we were there working, and we were able to invite in for a quick tour!

We’ve never been more confident that we picked the right spot for our project, and we look forward to being here a very long time.

So, without further ado….

We have some beer to pour for you!

We will be open for business at noon, Saturday, July 21st.

Please help us celebrate the end of the beginning.

Thank you so much.

…and we should note that now that we have an opening date for the brewery, we have a closing date for the Founders Club – we said it would close a week after opening. That means the club will close to new members on Saturday, 7/28. 🙂

Head Brewer Found!

Please join us in welcoming Phil Pesheck as Burke-Gilman Brewing’s Head Brewer!

We were humbled by the quality of candidates who showed interest. The brewers we interviewed came with fascinating experience and interesting attitudes about brewing. Phil really stood out in his approach, his ideas for the beer he wanted to make, and his eagerness to experiment. Here’s a bit about Phil in his own words:

I was born and raised in the Seattle area. I love getting outdoors & exploring this amazing state.

I started home brewing while in college at Western in Bellingham, where I was inspired by the beers of Boundary Bay & Orchard Street Brewing. While home brewing one night I had ‘The Calling’ and decided to give professional brewing a try.
I started my career in the cellar at Mac n’ Jacks, then worked around the industry until I started work at Georgetown Brewing. There, I discovered a passion for everything strong, hoppy, and malty.

I aspire to make BGBC the ‘Family-Room’ of the Burke Gilman Trail. Expect many experimental session IPAs, Double IPAs, Strong ales, Barleywines, Kettle soured, and Barrel Aged brews from me. I’m also very interested in Belgian styles, so this feels like a great fit. I’ve been reviewing the equipment the partners have specced, and quizzing them about their favorite breweries and beers, trying to create a synthesis of their voices and my own. I can’t wait to get started making beer for all of you!

We can’t wait, either, Phil! We’ve already been working on recipes, taking the experimental brews we’ve done at home, and putting Phil’s professional experience to work on them. We look forward to having a wonderful variety of beers on tap and all of us learning together!

Head Brewer Wanted!

Burke-Gilman Brewing is a small (7 bbl) neighborhood brewery that just started on build-out. We’re hoping to be open in spring of 2018, but we hope you can start before then, to help with initial startup and brewing our opening lineup. We’ll focus on producing beer for consumption on premises, with only a small portion kegged and sold in other venues. We want to work our way up to 20 or so taps, with a few guest taps. We won’t have a kitchen, but will have some food options, including quite a few nearby restaurants that patrons will  be free to order in from. We hope to start around 600 bbl/yr, eventually scaling up to 1000 bbl.

Several of the founders are experienced home brewers, but don’t want to quit their day jobs. So, we’re hiring a full time head brewer! We want to try lots of things, but in particular we’d like to have a well-rounded line of session beers, with some stronger stuff to complement it. We like Belgian styles, and we’re trying to find room for some barrel souring. We’ll take this slowly, and build up expertise over time as we learn what the neighborhood is thirsty for.

You have some experience as a professional brewer. Some education from an accredited brewing program is desirable as well. You’re ready for the challenge of being head brewer, but you also don’t mind if we founders occasionally brew (under your direction) on your system. We’ve got tons of ideas for tap line-ups, and we’d love to hear your ideas as well.

You are passionate about quality and cleanliness, and willing to lead our in-house tasting panel, to help train the palates of other staff.

You’ll be in charge of all facets of brewhouse and cellar operations and any additional brewing staff we eventually hire. Responsibilities include raw material ordering, wort production, yeast management, record keeping, inventory management, QC, and fermentation management.

We want to talk beer with you – if you’re brewing now, let’s try yours. We want you to try ours and give us a critique. If you aren’t brewing now, take us someplace good and tell us about what we’re tasting. What do you like? What would you improve? How would you go about that? If you were crafting a tap list to keep northeast Seattle engaged, how would you do that?

You’ll get a competitive salary and benefits package, flexible work hours, a pleasant working environment, and a lot of creative freedom. We’re an equal opportunity employer, and passionate about fostering an inclusive work environment.
